Sport Recife vs Flamengo
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 8 June 2017
Kick-off: 02:45 CET
Sport are being… typical Sport, doing well at home, but losing a big part of their strength away from Recife. Humiliation at Ponte Preta (4-0), defeat at lowly Avai last weekend (1-0), but impressive home win over Gremio (4-3), and draw to Cruzeiro (1-1), even Botafogo in the Copa do Brasil (where they got eliminated, since they had lost in Rio de Janeiro. Left-back Sander and center-back Patrick are the latest additions to Sport’s roster, and they should be available for this game, since their papers were going to be ready the day before the match. Interestingly, it was an absent as well who attracted attention these last days at Sport. Chilean left-back Eugenio Mena got arrested for speeding in his home country, where he has joined his national team ahead of the Confederations Cup in Russia. He was going with 166km/h, on a road that the limit is 120km/h.
Flamengo remain unbeaten after four games in the Serie A, but with three draws and just one win it’s no wonder why they are not sharing the top spot with the other two unbeaten sides, Chapecoense and Corinthians. Last weekend they drew 0-0 to Botafogo, a very disappointing performance and result, despite the fact that they managed their second clean sheet of the season. A couple of days ago they announced the singing of 28-year-old attacking midfielder Everton Ribeiro, who spent the last three years at Dubai’s Al Ahli. Flamengo spent 22 million reais to acquire the Brazilian player, that’s 6 million euros, a big amount of money by Brazilian standards, and a rather unusual choice by the player himself. It’s not that common for 28-year-olds to return to Brazil. Other important news at Flamengo is that 34-year-old Argentine attacking midfielder Dario Conca is just one step away from making his debut. He was injured when he signed from Shanghai SIPG in January, but he has recovered, he even played in a test game a couple of days ago, and he could play against Sport, even though, according to reports, most probably coach Ze Ricardo will delay his debut until the coming weekend, at Avai.
Sport Recife vs Flamengo: Head-to-head Stats
Flamengo have managed to beat Sport just once in the last five times they visited them. Two games ended in a draw, and twice it was the home side that picked up all three points.
Sport Recife vs Flamengo: Prediction
Flamengo are considered slight favorites to win this. Sport though, are more than decent at home. All in all, I’m backing the visitors not to lose, but I’m hesitant to predict a win of theirs.
Sport Recife vs Flamengo: Tips
My main tip to almost double your money is ‘both teams to score’, at 1.95. I prefer to leave winners and losers aside. Sport have scored in their last 21 home games(!), and Flamengo have scored in nine of their last ten games on the road.
