Sport Recife vs Fluminense
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 22 July 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Sport Recife lost 1-0 at Ceará midweek, but that’s not their biggest problem at the moment; the clubs owes money to the players and people working at the offices, they are two months late, and it feels like the only way out is to sell one or two players. They were willing to strike a deal with Vasco da Gama over promising midfielder Everton Felipe, but when the offer finally arrived, it was called “ridiculous” by top Sport officials. They have entered negotiations with other clubs. Center-back Ernando got injured, and looks like he will stay sidelined for up to four weeks. Sport are 9th in the table, on 19 points from 13 matches, not bad, but they need to find solutions to their financial problems, before they start affecting the team too much.
Fluminense had lost their last four games before the World Cup finals break, they were losing 1-0 at Vasco da Gama as well midweek, but an 89th-minute goal by Pedro saved them, earning them at least a point, and a morale boost that comes from finally leaving the pitch undefeated. A bit earlier, they had missed two “wow” chances to equalize, so that 89th-minute goal didn’t come… out of nowhere. Midfielder Jadson is out due to cards, a real problem for coach Marcelo Oliveira, given that Jadson has characteristics that other midfielders at Flu don’t have. The fact that he has played in 31 out of Flu’s 33 games in 2018, gives you an idea how important he is to the team. Fluminense are 12th in the table, on 15 points from 13 matches.

Sport Recife vs Fluminense: Prediction
I’m backing Sport to win the game, counting on their very-very good record at home, and Fluminense’s mostly below-average performances on the road since the start of the season.
Sport Recife vs Fluminense: Betting Tips
Sport’s win pays 2.00 (with their double chance down at 1.28). “No” on “both teams to score” is at 1.90. Both suit my 1-0 hunch.
