Sport Recife vs Gremio
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 14 June 2018
Kick-off: 00:30 CET
Sport Recife had lost just one of their previous nine games before visiting Vasco da Gama last weekend, they had built an undefeated run of five matches, but despite coming super close to leaving Rio de Janeiro with a point, they lost the game, conceding a third goal (3-2) in the 90th minute. They had seen Vasco take the lead twice, but they had fought back both times, and it felt like they deserved to get something out of the game. They are on 18 points, having three wins and two draws at home since the start of the season, no defeat. As hosts, they have back-to-back victories over Atlético Mineiro and Atlético Paranaense.
Gremio hadn’t scored in their last three home games before hosting América Mineiro last weekend, but I backed them to finally send the ball in, win, keep a clean sheet, and I also expected them to… loosen up, score at least three goals, cruise to the victory. They did win, they did keep a clean sheet, but they didn’t manage more than one goal, losing a good deal of chances. Winning that game was an absolute must, after losing 2-0 to Palmeiras at home a few days earlier. Before placing your bet on this game, do know that Gremio flew to Recife without four key players; winger Everton, their scorer against América, is out due to cards. Central midfielder Maicon stayed back, as the medical staff advised against his presence in this game. Center-back Wálter Kannemann also missed the trip, as well as attacking midfielder Luan, super important players, both of them, for Gremio, as tests showed that they are close to suffering a muscle injury. In other words, the Porto Alegre side will play in Recife with an alternative lineup.

Sport Recife vs Gremio: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Sport, one for Gremio, and a draw, in the last five games between these two in Recife.
Sport Recife vs Gremio: Prediction
I would have serious doubts backing Gremio to win the game, even if they had flown to Pernambuco without key players missing. The fact that Everton, Maicon, Kannemann and Luan, all four stayed back (not to mention Geromel who is in Russia with Brazil’s national team), makes me feel that Sport have very good chances of earning at least a draw.
Sport Recife vs Gremio: Betting Tips
Sport’s win in “draw no bet” is at 1.83. Their double chance pays 1.50. Gremio have conceded less goals than any other Série A team, just five in 11 matches, but Kannemann is missing, the guy who… kept them super solid defensively, after captain Geromel joined Brazil’s national team.
