Sport Recife vs Santos
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 2 December 2018
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
The worst part about Sport Recife’s situation right now, and what I bet cost them a lot of sleep this past week, is that they don’t depend on themselves alone. They are on 39 points, 18th in the table, one behind América Mineiro, two behind Chapecoense, and three behind both Fluminense and Vasco da Gama. It goes without writing, to have any chance of avoiding relegation, they MUST win this game, a draw won’t be enough, regardless of what happens in other matches. What happens if they win and go to 42 points? They’ll need to keep an eye on Fluminense vs América, Chapecoense vs Sao Paulo, and Ceará vs Vasco. The possible scenarios are so many that… it would take me an endless paragraph to go into details; bottom line is, the ideal for Sport, would be to see América not beat Fluminense, Chape not beat Sao Paulo, and Vasco lose at Ceará. Even two of those three could be enough, as long as, I repeat, they do their… duty, and beat Santos. Interestingly, Milton Mendes, Sport’s coach, asked everyone, fans included, not to follow the results of other games, while they will be playing against Santos. He feels that any distraction would harm them, and wants his players 100% focused on their own game.
It’s a relief for Santos not to need any points in this match, because they traveled to Pernambuco with no less than nine guys missing, many of them key-key figures in the team. Lucas Veríssimo, Derlis González, Anderson Ceará and Bruno Henrique are injured. Bryan Ruiz is down with a virus. Carlos Sánchez, Alison, Gabigol and Dodô are suspended. Santos are 10th in the table, on 50 points. They can finish a bit higher, but not lower, they have secured a Copa Sudamericana ticket, so… they are relaxed. This is Cuca’s last game in charge. His heart problem obliges him to take some time off. Talking to reporters at his last Press conference at Vila Belmiro before flying to Recife, he told them his target is to return to Santos one day, perfectly healthy.

Sport Recife vs Santos: Head to head Stats
Three Sport wins and two draws in the last five games between these two in Recife.
Sport Recife vs Santos: Prediction
Regretfully, Sport’s win pays just 1.57. With Santos not interested in the points, and having traveled without… half their team, Sport’s win feels very-very probable, especially taking into consideration that this is a must-must win game for them.
Sport Recife vs Santos: Betting Tips
If you’re ok with 1.57, a simple Sport win is for you. “Sport and under 2.5 goals”, at 3.25, is my riskier tip, counting on the hosts to focus on protecting their lead, after taking it, hoping at the same time that results in other games will go their way.
