Sport Recife vs Vasco da Gama
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 21 October 2018
Kick-off: 00:00 CET
Sport Recife are in serious-serious trouble. Their 4-0 embarrassment at Atlético Paranaense last weekend, left them stuck on 27 points, second-to-last in the table, five behind Vitória, the first team right above the relegation line. Their only real hope to stay in the Série A, comes from the expectation to “deliver” in their remaining home matches. Despite their poor results, overall, in the championship, they’ve managed to beat Paraná and Internacional(!) at Ilha do Retiro the last month and a half, draw with Cruzeiro, losing only to Palmeiras, 0-1. Magrão, their regular goalkeeper, had to undergo surgery, and the season is over for him. Will Maílson keep substituting him? There are doubts, but among the available keepers, he seems to be the favorite to continue playing. Center-back Jair is back, having served his one-match ban.
“If he had been with us since the start of the season, today we wouldn’t be in this position”. That’s what Yago Pikachu, Vasco da Gama’s best player, told reporters about Maxi López, the Argentinian striker who has been delivering consistently since he started playing for them. Truth is, he wasn’t at the team at the start of the season, and even after he got signed, he spent weeks trying to reach a fitness level that would allow him to play, but yes, with him on the field, Vasco are a different team. Last weekend, it was these two, Pikachu and López, who scored in Vasco’s 2-0 win over Cruzeiro at home, a massive victory. They have stayed undefeated in their last six matches (two wins, four draws), but they are still very close to the relegation line, on 34 points, sitting 14th in the table. On another note, on Wednesday, players, coaching staff, and employees at the club offices, got paid their August salary. Vasco are one of the several Série A clubs facing serious financial problems.

Sport Recife vs Vasco da Gama: Head to head Stats
One win each, and a draw, in the three games between these two in Recife the last six years.
Sport Recife vs Vasco da Gama: Prediction
Vasco have three 1-1 draws in a row away from home, and I will be surprised if they lose in Recife. The stadium should be mostly full, Sport set incredibly low prices on most tickets (close to nothing, entrance is practically free), but even so, I’m backing Vasco to return to Rio de Janeiro with… something.
Sport Recife vs Vasco da Gama: Betting Tips
Vasco’s double chance is at 1.55. Their win in “draw no bet” pays 2.05. That’s the only way I would bet on their win, keeping in mind that against practically relegated Paraná, in Curitiba, earlier this month, all they managed was a poor 1-1 draw.
