Sportivo Luqueno vs Cerro Porteno
Competition: Paraguay Clausura
Date: 8 September 2018
Kick-off: 22:00 CET
Sportivo Luqueño visited Deportivo Capiatá last weekend, eager to bounce back from their 3-1 defeat at Nacional. I didn’t believe in them, I backed Capiatá to win the game (2.20), mentioning that I was tempted to combine that with “over 2.5 goals” They lost indeed, 2-1. Actually, they took the lead seconds before the end of the first half, but they conceded twice between the 62nd and the 78th minute, to lose the game. They lost Nelson Cabrera as well, as he received a direct red card towards the end of the match. According to reports, coach Gustavo Florentín will be making changes in every single sector, including, most probably, in the goalkeeper position. Do keep in mind, the game is held in Asunción, at Defensores del Chaco, a short walk from Cerro Porteño’s home, it’s not held in Luque, Sportivo’s real home.
Cerro Porteño needed a super late Nelson Valdez goal to avoid defeat last weekend, when they hosted Deportivo Santaní, a… favorite to get relegated. Cerro had just beaten Palmeiras in Sao Paulo, in the Copa Libertadores, touching the dream of eliminating their big rivals (they still got eliminated though, despite their victory). To draw at home with Santaní after such a success abroad, was… the very definition of a “let-down”. The gap between them and leaders Olimpia grew to four points, as Olimpia won their game, versus Guaraní. Actually, Cerro’s president accused Guaraní of practically… losing the game voluntarily, without giving a fight, while “they always die trying to beat Cerro”, as he put it.

A simple Cerro win is at 1.66. For more than that, I would combine it with “over 2.5 goals”. Like that, it pays 2.75.
