Sportivo Luqueno vs Nacional Asuncion
Competition: Paraguay Apertura
Date: 12 March 2018
Kick-off: 21:45 CET
If Sportivo Luqueño’s players had a hint of dignity, they would have fined themselves for what happened midweek. They had beaten Deportivo Cuenca 2-0 at home, in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana first round tie. In the 55th minute, Cuenca were reduced to 10 men. Amazingly, they took the lead, in the 74th minute, I repeat, playing with a man less. Even so, Luqueño were in control, still qualifying, still playing with an extra man. Come 78th minute, Cuenca lost a second player(!). Ridiculous as this may look (for Luqueño), Cuenca scored again in the 82nd minute, playing with NINE men!! The tie went to penalties, and Cuenca got what they deserved, the qualification, with Luqueño writing a black-black page in their history. Shameful performance, shameful defeat, just a few days after beating General Díaz 2-0 at home, in Rivera’s first game in charge. Not even their new coach managed to “save” them in Ecuador…
Unlike Sportivo Luqueño, Nacional Asunción did their duty in Venezuela midweek, beating Mineros de Guayana even on penalties, to qualify for the second round of the Copa Sudamericana. Draw, at 2.95, was my tip back then. Last weekend they were considered clear favourites to beat Sol de América at home, but I backed Sol to earn at least a draw, and they did, 1-1. Truth is, Nacional played their best half (the first one) since the opening game of the Apertura, since the first half in their 2-1 win over Cerro Porteño. Generally, I feel they have played two good halves in the first five game weeks of the Apertura, disappointing the rest of the time, looking uninspired and uninspiring. Ironically, if they are awarded with the points from that game against Independiente (they are still to hear from the Paraguayan FA, a month after the game took place), they will be among the league leaders.

Sportivo Luqueno vs Nacional Asuncion: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Sportivo Luqueño and two for Nacional in the last five games between these two with Luqueño as hosts. Four of those five matches went over 2.5 goals.
Sportivo Luqueno vs Nacional Asuncion: Prediction
I’m glad to see Sportivo Luqueño be considered favourites, because it makes Nacional’s double chance pay better than what I expected.
Sportivo Luqueno vs Nacional Asuncion: Betting Tips
Nacional’s double chance is at 1.50 betting odds, low, but one of those bets that look very good to me, if you’re looking for something around 1.50 to combine with another bet. Nacional have scored just three goals in their last six matches, two of those came in one match, but in this case I expect them to take advantage of how hurt Sportivo Luqueño are, score, and earn at least a point. Their win in “draw no bet” is at 2.00 betting odds.
