Standard Liege vs Sevilla
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 29 November 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
If only… Three weeks ago, at Krasnodar, Standard Liege were leading 0-1 until the 79th minute. Even a draw would have been a decent result, it would have kept them level on points with Krasnodar, it would have given them an advantage over the Russian side (they have beaten them 2-1 in Belgium), even Sevilla would be just two points away, but… in three minutes they conceded twice. They are now third in the table, and even if they beat Sevilla, they’ll be in deep trouble, because I seriously doubt they’ll match the 5-1 they lost with in Spain, back in September. Standard need a combination of results to finish in the top-2, and one thing they have going for them is that in two weeks they will be facing the weakest team in the group, Akhisarspor (in Turkey though, not at home). They’ve won back-to-back games in their championship, and are 6th in the table there.
What a crazy game the one between Akhisarspor and Sevilla was three weeks ago… The Spanish side took a 0-2 lead in the first half, and at that point, it felt like they had everything under control. The Turkish team shortened the gap, 1-2, in the 52nd minute, and four after that, Sevilla lost Sergi Gómez to a second yellow card. Come 78th minute, Akhisarspor equalized, and looked capable of earning their first point in the group. It wasn’t meant to be; the referee gave Sevilla a penalty late-late, Éver Banega didn’t let the opportunity go wasted, 2-3, super important win for Sevilla, who are second in the table, on nine points, as many as Krasnodar, and three ahead of third-placed Standard. Last weekend they beat Real Valladolid 1-0 at home, thanks to an André Silva goal in the first half. They are leading(!) in Spain’s championship, one point ahead of second-placed Barcelona.

Standard Liege vs Sevilla: Head to head Stats
Standard have hosted Sevilla twice before; they beat them 1-0 in 2008, and drew without goals in 2014.
Standard Liege vs Sevilla: Prediction
Between Standard’s double chance and Sevilla’s win, I prefer the former, doubting the Spanish side will look particularly… hungry to win, given that a draw is enough for them to secure a spot in the last 32 of the competition.
Standard Liege vs Sevilla: Betting Tips
Standard’s win pays 2.15, my only tip.
