Sweden vs France
Competition: Europe World Cup Qualifying
Date: 9 June 2017
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
This is Sweden’s biggest chance to catch France at the top of the group, and become favorites to finish first. They lost 2-1 in Paris back in November, they drew 1-1 to the Netherlands on the first day of the group stage, but they’ve beaten Bulgaria, Belarus and Luxembourg, so… this is it, they won’t find a better chance to get even with France on points. Unlike other teams, Sweden didn’t play any friendlies games these last days. Their last match was in March, a 3-2 win over Portugal. They have scored a total of 13 goals in their last three games, over Portugal, Belarus, and Slovakia.
France were held to a surprise 0-0 draw in Belarus on the first day of the qualifiers, but ever since then they have been very consistent, picking up some major victories along the way, namely in the Netherlands and at home over Sweden. A few days ago they were impressive against Paraguay in a friendly game, they beat them 5-0, with Olivier Giroud scoring three of those five goals. Given how things are in the group, a draw wouldn’t be a bad result for the French, since it would keep one of their main rivals for the top spot three points behind them, with four games left. Especially with the Dutch having been left so far behind, it would be a major failure for France if they missed out on a direct ticket to the World Cup finals, and had to go through the playoffs instead.
Sweden vs France: Head-to-head Stats
Sweden have hosted France eight time before, they have beaten them three three times, the French have picked up as many victories, and two games have ended in a draw.
Sweden vs France: Prediction
There is no doubt France have a much better team, but I’m hesitating to back them to win, partly because a draw wouldn’t be a bad result for them. Given that ‘draw or France’ pays too little, I’m going for goals instead.
Sweden vs France: Tips
‘Draw or France’ pays practically nothing. To almost double my money, I would bet on the game to have 2 or 3 goals. This pays 1.95, and it saves you from the trouble of predicting the winner. Sweden have been great offensively in their last games, France were impressive against Paraguay as well, I do expect goals in this match, but not more than three.
