Switzerland vs Japan
Competition: International friendly
Date: 8 June 2018
Kick-off: 19:00 CET
Switzerland fell to Poland on penalties, in the round of 16 of Euro 2016, in France, but ever since then, they’ve been nothing less than impressive. They went on to win 10 games in a row (nine in the World Cup qualifiers and a friendly one), before losing to Portugal in Lisbon. They got the job done in the playoffs, last November, against Northern Ireland, beat Greece and World Cup finalists Panama (6-0, the latter) in friendly games, and last but not least, they managed a 1-1 draw a few days ago, when they visited Spain(!). It feels they’ve done almost everything right for two years now, gaining in self-confidence, after what was a very poor showing in Euro 2016, despite qualifying from the group stage. This is their last game before facing Brazil in Russia.
Japan didn’t need playoffs to qualify for the World Cup finals, but only because the level of the competition they faced in the AFC was rather low. They’ve been poor in most of their friendly games since then, losing 2-0 to Ghana just a few days ago. Unlike Switzerland, Japan have one more friendly game before they travel to Russia, so their coach, Nishino, is expected to… keep trying things, anxiously looking for reliable solutions. Japan have been poor for months now. Results alone, in friendly games, are not of utmost importance, but even Japan’s performances in most games have been… anything from “bad” to “unacceptable”.

Switzerland vs Japan: Betting Tips
A simple Switzerland win pays 1.70. Combined with a clean sheet it goes up to 2.50. The Swiss have kept a clean sheet in seven out of their eight home games these last two years. “No” on “both teams to score” is at 1.66, if you are… afraid that Japan will manage to avoid defeat, somehow getting a goalless draw.
