Sydney FC vs Kashima Antlers
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 7 March 2018
Kick-off: 09:30 CET
“Both teams to score” and “over 2.5 combined goals” were my two main tips two weeks ago when Sydney visited Shanghai Shenhua, and both had come good by the 34th minute(!). Sydney had gone 2-1 up from 1-0 down, but the first half ended 2-2, and that was the final score as well. As I expected, Sydney seemed way more effective offensively, compared to their 2-0 defeat at home a week earlier, to Suwon Bluewings. Last weekend they lost 2-1 at Newcastle Jets, despite the fact that their rivals were left with 10 men just 14 minutes into the game. They remain leaders, but their gap to second-placed Newcastle is down to eight points. Milos Ninkovic had to be substituted late in the game last weekend, Sydney feared their key attacking figure was seriously injured, but it turned out to be a small problem, and he could even play against Kashima.
Again, “both teams to score” and “over 2.5 goals” were my tips in Kashima Antlers’ game as well, when they visited Suwon Bluewings two weeks ago. Both came good, as Kashima left Korea victorious, 2-1. It was actually easier than what the final score suggests, as the Japanese side took the lead less than 10 minutes into the game, made it 2-0 before the 60-minute mark, and Suwon only managed a consolation goal late in the match. Kashima started the new J-League season well, drawing at Shimizu S-Pulse, and beating Gamba Osaka at home. They kept a clean sheet in both matches.

Sydney FC vs Kashima Antlers: Head to head Stats
Sydney have hosted Kashima once before, in 2011. They lost 0-3 in that AFC CL group stage match.
Sydney FC vs Kashima Antlers: Prediction
Kashima Antlers are considered slight favourites to win the game, but I will be surprised if Sydney lose a second game in a row at home. I’m backing the home side to earn at least a draw.
Sydney FC vs Kashima Antlers: Betting Tips
Sydney FC’s double chance is at 1.47 betting odds, good enough for those who want something around 1.50 to combine with a bet on another match, maybe. Unlike two weeks ago, this time I don’t expect the game to have more than two goals. “Under 2.5”, at 2.05, is my main tip, suiting my 1-1 hunch.
