Tigre vs Banfield
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 8 February 2019
Kick-off: 23:00 CET
Eight matches left, but very few chances for Tigre to avoid what feels almost unavoidable, get relegated. Last weekend, they visited Gimnasia La Plata, went 1-0 down early in the second half, managed to equalize in the 72nd minute, but they conceded two more goals in a matter of three minutes (84’-87’), to lose 3-1. Incredibly, their goal was again scored by Hugo Silveira. The 25-year-old Uruguayan centre-forward is a… weird case; he plays at Tigre on loan from Nacional (Montevideo), he played six minutes in Tigre’s second match of the season, he was not even on the bench after that(!), until December, when he was given 25 minutes as a substitute at Belgrano, scoring and helping Tigre win 1-2. Next, he was given 10 minutes in Tigre’s 2-2 draw at home with San Martín Tucumán, and again, he scored. Last, he played for 30 minutes last weekend, at Gimnasia, and… yes, another goal. In total, he has played 70 minutes this season, and has scored three goals! I wonder when will he finally be given a spot in the starting lineup…
A week after costing his team two points in their home game against San Martín San Juan, Colombian goalkeeper Iván Arboleda did it again… In the 5th minute of Talleres vs Banfield, Sebastián Palacios made him look like a total idiot, scoring from an almost impossible angle. One of those goals that make you wonder if the goalkeeper is a professional player with a market value of 3-4 million euros, or an amateur who plays football once a week with friends… Three minutes later, Talleres scored again, and the game was practically over. Banfield did get a goal back in the 79th minute, but right after that, Talleres scored a third goal, putting the game to bed for good. Hernán Crespo has to make a big decision, either stick with Arboleda, or shake things up, trust one of his two young goalkeepers, Facundo Altamirano or Facundo Cambeses. Banfield are 13th in the table, close to the Copa Sudamericana positions.
