Turkey vs Iran
Competition: International friendly
Date: 28 May 2018
Kick-off: 20:15 CET
Simply put, Turkey failed in the World Cup qualifiers, not even making the playoffs. Back in March, in their last friendly games, they beat the Republic of Ireland 1-0, and drew 2-2 to Montenegro. Coach Mircea Lucescu has implied that his intention is to “invest” in young players, feeling that certain guys of the “old guard” have, more or less, offered everything they had to offer. He is expected to start the game with Babacan, Ayhan, Soyuncu, Topal, Kaldirim, Ozyakup, Yokuslu, Under, Malli, Calhanoglu and Tosun. That 1-0 victory over the Irish back in March, is their only win in six games now. Trabzonspor’s Abdülkadir Ömür, an 18-year-old right midfielder with a “market value” of 4 million euros (already), is unavailable, and the only guy really missing (among Lucescu’s top choices).
Unlike Turkey, Iran will be in the World Cup finals, and will face Morocco, Spain and Portugal in the group stage. Earlier this month, they beat Uzbekistan 1-0 (a game in which I had backed them to win and keep a clean sheet). Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz has decided on his World Cup finals squad, and there are well-known players missing. Defenders Jalal Hosseini and Vouria Ghafouri are out, despite being key players in the country’s two biggest teams, Persepolis and Esteghlal respectively. Be reminded, Queiroz has already made known that he will be leaving Iran’s national team after the World Cup finals, regardless of how the team do there.

Turkey vs Iran: Head to head Stats
Turkey have hosted Iran three times in the past, winning all three games by a total score of 11-1(!). The most recent game though was in the 60s.
Turkey vs Iran: Prediction
The game is held in Istanbul, not at neutral venue. The hosts are considered relatively clear favorites to win, but I have serious doubts.
Turkey vs Iran: Betting Tips
Iran’s double chance, at 1.75 betting odds, is my main tip. Betting companies expect the game to have up to two goals, but I’m counting on both sides’ youngsters to look extra motivated, and score enough to push the game “over 2.5 goals” (2.35).
