Ulster vs Scarlets
Competition: Guinness Pro14
Date: 15 September 2017
Kick off: 20:35 CET
The defending champion Scarlets, as well as Ulster have gotten themselves into a good position after two rounds, but they will both admit that this will be the biggest challenge of the season for both sides.
Although it is still early days, it is Scarlets who top the log with their two wins from two, but it is more than that because they are at the top having won each game with a good haul of points, but they also faced two sides that can be expected to finish bottom of the log. First, the Scarlets beat the kings in a 57-10 hammering, at home as well, and then they went to the usual strugglers in Italy and defeated Zebre 41-10. The Scarlets showed last year that they have an incredible backline, and some stars in it who are already standing out this season. The likes of Leigh Halfpenny and the outside backs in the Scarlet side have the ability to test teams apart who are not as strong, so it will be interesting to see if they have the same effect when they face off against a strong Ulster side.
Ulster have also won both their game this early season, and they have also faced a South African side in the Cheetahs, as well as the other Italian side, Treviso. Ulster have been a team that has promised so much for so long but always fell short of their potential, so it will now be up to them to show they have the ability to go all the way after a frustrating season last year. If they can show a good performance at home against the defending champions, a lot of the teams will indeed start to take them far more seriously. However, in order to do that they will have to be the dominating force in this encounter and not let the Scarlets gain too much control.

Ulster vs Scarlets: Head to Head Stats
This has been a consistently close encounter over the years as the teams have a pretty similar record in their last 10 encounters. Scarlets have five of the last 10 games in their bag while Ulster have four, and there has also been a draw. The majority of it has been wins at home as Scarlets are the only ones in the last 10 to win away.
Ulster vs Scarlets: Prediction
The home ground advantage will be the difference in this game, it has been for a long time, and with these teams both playing well in similar tests this season, the game will be tight but being at home will tip it for Ulster.
