Unicaja Malaga vs Olympiacos Piraeus
Competition: Turkish Airlines Euroleague
Date: 30 March 2018
Time: 18:00 CET
Unicaja Malaga were up against Brose Bamberg in Germany last week, in an indifferent match in the Euroleague. Both teams have been eliminated from the playoff chase, and they played a really free match. Brose Bamberg were so much better at the first half, as they managed to take a 55:42 lead. Unicaja Malaga tried to make a comeback in the second half, and actually outscored their opponents in both quarters, but eventually fell by 93:88. Nedovic was really good with a team-high 26 points, 5 assists and 5/7 triples, while McCallum scored 13, and Suarez scored 9 with 8 boards. They have not been in very good form lately, as they have lost four of their last five matches in all competitions. They are now sitting at the 13th spot of the Euroleague (W11 L17), scoring an average of 78.21 points per match, while allowing 81.35 in the process. Unicaja Malaga will be coming into this match with a single injury concern, as Shermadini won’t be able to face his old team.
On the other hand, Olympiacos Piraeus didn’t have a very easy job in the double-game week, as they first lost to CSKA Moscow by 89:81 in Russia, and struggled a bit to overcome Anadolu Efes in their most recent match. They actually made a dominant start in that match (30:15 in the first quarter), but their opponents cut that lead down to 7 points at the end of the first half. Olympiacos Piraeus extended their lead once again in the third quarter, only to find the same resistance in the fourth. They did win, but not by much. Milutinov dominated the paint with 20 points and 8 rebounds, Spanoulis showed glimpses of his old self with 17 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds, while Papapetrou (17p, 7 r) and Printezis (11p, 8r) were also really good. Olympiacos Piraeus are still sitting at the 3rd spot of the Euroleague (W19 L9), just a single win behind Fenerbahce. In order to capture the second spot, they need to win both matches, and Fenerbahce to lose them both. Moreover, they will be coming here without Printezis, Papanikolaou and Agravanis.
