Union Santa Fe vs Banfield
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 8 December 2018
Kick-off: 21:10 CET
Unión Santa Fe lost just one of their first nine matches in the Superliga this season, and that defeat was in Avellaneda, to leaders Racing Club, a narrow 1-0. From that, they’ve gone to losing three of their last four matches, and managing just one draw, at home, with Patronato. Their recent… transformation has been “spectacular”, and not in a good way. Last weekend they lost 2-0 at San Martín San Juan, a team fighting to avoid relegation. Down 2-0, Unión earned a numerical advantage in the 74th minute, when San Martín lost a player to a second yellow card. Instead of exhausting their chances of salvaging something in San Juan, the only thing that changed before the final whistle was that Unión lost a player as well, to a direct, red card; center-back Jonathan Bottinelli got sent-off, and is obviously unavailable this weekend. Unión are 11th in the table, on 19 points from 13 matches.
That is not how Julio César Falcioni wanted his “goodbye” to Banfield to be… They lost 0-1 at home to Argentinos Juniors last weekend, a truly… ridiculous result, keeping in mind how poor Argentinos Juniors had been seen the start of the season. Midweek, the club announced that Falcioni is no longer the team’s coach, not because they lost last weekend, but because his health condition is such that pretty much obliges him to put an end to his managerial career. He has been offered a job at Banfield, as a director, and it remains to be seen if he will accept it. As for who will succeed him, former Argentina international Hernán Crespo looks like a strong candidate. Banfield are 13th in the table, on 18 points from 14 matches.

Unión have been so poor lately, that they’re almost… begging you to bet against them. Banfield’s defeat last weekend was their first in four matches.
Union Santa Fe vs Banfield: Betting Tips
“Draw or Banfield” is at 2.30, which I prefer much better to Unión’s win at just 1.65(!).
