Universitatea Craiova vs AEK Athens
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 8 August 2019
Kick-off: 18:15 CET
No surprise. On Monday, UEFA informed Universitatea Craiova that they were getting punished, but not… squashed. The Romanian side will play without fans on their side against AEK, and if UEFA’s initial decision is not changed at a later stage, Craiova will… miss their fans in their next two home matches as well, in UEFA competitions, whenever they are, either this season, or the next time they manage to qualify for one. They are paying for what happened at the end of the game against Honved last week, when the referee got injured by something that was thrown from the stands. The game was halted for half an hour, the referee couldn’t continue, he had to be replaced, and that is actually why Honved asked UEFA to ban Craiova from playing in the third round, giving them the ticket instead. The Romanian side qualified on penalties, after 210 minutes without goals. On Sunday they lost 2-1 at Hermannstadt, despite being the ones who took the lead less than three minutes into the game.
AEK are in a… transition period; first of all, they have a new coach, Portuguese Miguel Cardoso, who succeeded Manolo Jiménez. Unlike last summer, when AEK’s president didn’t look willing to spend in order to strengthen their roster (they finished third in the championship in Greece, and lost yet another Cup final to PAOK, the third in a row), this time the club’s main shareholder looked bold, signing players like Italian Daniele Verde and Portuguese Nélson Oliveira. The targets are clear, reach the Europa League group stage, win at least one title in Greece. Whoever qualifiers from this tie, will face either Sparta Prague or Trabzonspor in the playoffs.

Universitatea Craiova vs AEK Athens: Betting Tips
“Under 2.5 goals” is my top choice, but it’s not paying more than 1.60. I would risk with “under 1.5”, at 2.75, and deep down I won’t be surprised if the game ends in a goalless draw.
