Urawa Red Diamonds vs Buriram United
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 6 March 2019
Kick-off: 11:30 CET
Urawa Red Diamonds finished fifth last season in J1 League, a position not good enough for an AFC Champions League ticket, but they won the Emperor’s Cup, earning a spot directly into the group stage. This is their 7th appearance. Back in 2017 they went all the way, winning the title, beating Al Hilal in the final (1-1 draw in Saudi Arabia, 1-0 win at home, in the return leg), but they were nowhere to be seen in the competition last season, as the AFC do not grant automatically the winners a spot in next year’s edition. Plus, Urawa failed to earn a ticket through their domestic competitions, so… no AFC CL for them last year, ironic as this may look, given that they were the reigning titleholders. Things have not started well for them this season. They lost the Super Cup to Kawasaki Frontale, and they earned just one point from their first two championship matches.
As 5th in the AFC rankings, Thailand get one spot directly into the group stage, which is obviously reserved for their champions. Buriram United have been ruling in their country’s football scene for some years now, so it’s no wonder this is their 8th appearance in the AFC CL. Last year they did great in the group stage, qualified for the last 16, they even beat Jeonbuk Motors(!) 3-2 at home in the first leg, but lost 2-0 in Korea a week later, in May, and the dream came to an end. Still, they left awesome impressions. Bozidar Bandovic remains their coach (in charge since January 2017). Interestingly, in two championship matches at the start of the new season, all they managed was two points, two draws.

Urawa Red Diamonds vs Buriram United: Head to head Stats
No history between these two.
Urawa Red Diamonds vs Buriram United: Prediction
Both teams have started the new season poorly, but I think there is a clear quality gap between the two, with Urawa having a clearly stronger roster.
Urawa Red Diamonds vs Buriram United: Betting Tips
Given that a simple Urawa win pays just 1.50, I would risk combing that with “under 3.5 goals”, at 2.20.
