Urawa Red Diamonds vs Jeju United
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 31 May 2017
Kick-off: 12:30 CET
Urawa left Korea last week feeling they deserved something much-much better than a 2-0 defeat, but the truth is that they were not effective enough, and definitely not clever enough. They did create chances to score, but they missed all of them. They spent most of the game having possession of the ball, but they still ended up losing 2-0. The fact that they played in a practically empty stadium makes their failure look even bigger. Their coach, Mihailo Petrovic, insists they have the team to come back from such a defeat, but they will really need to put in their best possible performance, not only offensively, but also defensively. They looked unacceptably naive at Jeju last week, and if they concede once in the return leg, then they’ll need to score at least four goals.
Jeju United qualified for the knock-out stages of the AFC Champions League for the first time in their history, and hardly anyone expected them to shock Urawa the way they did, let alone get a massive 2-0 advantage. Their K-League game against Gwangju which was scheduled for last Saturday got postponed, so that the Korean side had more time to prepare for this return leg in Saitama. Last week, they were by far the most clever team on the pitch, striking early in the game, and then again in the second minute of added time, to leave Urawa wondering ‘what did just happen?’ Their coach, Sung-Hwan Cho, said that their priority will be, of course, to bolster their defence, but will keep an eye on counterattacking as well, to score that one goal that will practically secure their spot in the quarterfinals.
Urawa Red Diamonds vs Jeju United: Head-to-head Stats
Last week’s game in Jeju island, which the Korean side won 2-0, was the first ever between these two.
Urawa Red Diamonds vs Jeju United: Prediction
I’m anything but sure that Urawa will qualify, not after the major trouble they got into after that 2-0 defeat last week, but regardless, they should still win, at least win this game.
Urawa Red Diamonds vs Jeju United: Tips
A simple Urawa win pays 1.61. Last week they made me feel like an idiot losing the way they lost, but I still trust them to win this one. I expect the game to have up to three goals, and, I repeat, Urawa to win, a combination (Red Diamonds and under 3.5 goals) that pays 2.75.
