Uzbekistan vs Oman
Competition: AFC Asian Cup
Date: 9 January 2019
Kick-off: 14:30 CET
Uzbekistan failed to reach the World Cup finals, and in the process, not one, but two coaches lost their job. Once the finals were over, they made sure to hire a man who has proven his worth at international level; Argentine Héctor Cúper didn’t enjoy the success he was hoping for in the finals with Egypt, but still, it’s a privilege for Uzbekistan to have such a coach in charge of their national team. Defensive midfielder Odil Akhmedov remains their leader. After five years in Russia, he moved to Shanghai SIPG back in 2017, still promoting Uzbekistan’s name abroad, a sort of… ambassador of his country. Back in 2015, in Australia, they got knocked-out in the quarterfinals, which did feel like their roof in that tournament.
This is Oman’s fourth appearance in the AFC Asian Cup finals, and one thing their three previous ones have in common is that all ended in the group stage. Truth be written, four years ago, in Australia, they were extremely unlucky with the draw; they had the hosts and South Korea, along with Kuwait, in the same group. Be reminded, the Koreans and the Aussies were the ones who reached the final, which gives you an idea how tough Oman’s mission in the group stage had been. Dutchman Pim Verbeek has been in charge since December 2016. Is the roster he has at his disposal good enough to earn the team a spot in the last 16? With even the third-placed teams in each group having a decent chance of qualifying for the knock-out stages, every side has the right to be dreaming…

Uzbekistan vs Oman: Head to head Stats
Uzbekistan have played against Oman five times in the past, have won just once, with the other four matches going Oman’s way. Interestingly, goals are just 7-8 for Oman, because Uzbekistan’s win back in the 2002 World Cup qualifiers was a resounding 5-0 triumph.
Uzbekistan vs Oman: Prediction
Uzbekistan are considered favorites to win the game, and seeing their victory at 2.00, I’m willing to leave my reservations aside.
Uzbekistan vs Oman: Betting Tips
Uzbekistan had kept a clean sheet in three straight games before getting destroyed by South Korea in their last friendly game. Oman on the other hand, didn’t score in their three friendlies after Christmas. Uzbekistan’s clean sheet is at 2.00, their win pays exactly the same, and these two combined are at 2.70.
