Vasco da Gama vs Atletico Goianiense
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 25 June 2017
Kick-off: 16:00 CET
Not trusting Vasco one single bit, I predicted a defeat of theirs at Botafogo (2.00), with the hosts scoring at least twice (2.25). Botafogo ended up winning 3-1. Truth be written though, Vasco were not so bad. As Jean, their number 5, a defensive midfielder, told reporters after the match, Botafogo created less chances, but were very critical in finishing. Vasco actually created more chances, but they only managed to send the ball in six minutes from time, with the score already at 3-0. So far this season, Vasco have four wins in five home matches, they have beaten Bahia, Fluminense, Sport Recife and Avai, and they’ve only lost once, to leaders Corinthians.
Atletico Goianiense lost at Palmeiras as expected (and predicted here, but that was a rather easy prediction), doing, though, better than what I expected, defensively. Losing 1-0 at Palmeiras is not really a reason for your head to drop. Their sporting director, Adson Batista, said something interesting after their latest loss in Sao Paulo. He said they need players who can help the team come from behind and earn results in the second half, players who can pump extra energy into the team. His comment makes sense, considering that in all but one of the seven games Atletico Goianiense have already lost, they went down in the first half, and simply… didn’t have ‘it’ in them to turn the situation around in the second part of all those games. Batista also said that they are going to sign four more players, hoping to finish the season above the relegation line.
Vasco da Gama vs Atletico Goianiense: Head-to-head Stats
Vasco have four wins and one draw in their last five matches as hosts to Atletico Goianiense.
Vasco da Gama vs Atletico Goianiense: Prediction
At home, important detail, at home, Vasco make you feel you can trust them. They have already beaten teams much-much better than Atletico Goianiense, so they’re almost… obliging me to trust them to pick up three more points at Sao Januario.
Vasco da Gama vs Atletico Goianiense: Tips
Vasco’s win pays 1.50, more, I have to admit, than what I expected. Atletico Goianiense haven’t scored in their last three away games, (they have four consecutive losses on the road), so for more than 1.50, I’d go for a Vasco win combined with a clean sheet, at 2.37. They have conceded in four of their five home games so far, but Atletico Goianiense look so weak away from home that it’s tempting to bet against them, ‘counting’ on them to continue with their poor scoring record on the road.
