Vasco da Gama vs Avai
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 20 May 2019
Kick-off: 00:00 CET
Vasco da Gama visited Santos last weekend days after the club had announced that Vanderlei Luxemburgo would be their new coach, I expected the players to try… impress the new man in charge, but… 3-0, defeat, going 2-0 down just over half an hour into the game. Luxemburgo told reporters that players need to realize how big the club is, draw a line, stop thinking about the recent past (last year they struggled to avoid relegation), and just take things one game at a time, focusing on what they have ahead of them until the Copa América break next month. Vasco are expected to start with Sidão, Yago Pikachu, Werley, Castan, Henrique, Andrey, Lucas Mineiro, Bruno César, Rossi, Maxi López and Marrony. Pikachu should play as right fullback, unlike in the last two games where he looked more like a “clear” winger.
Vasco are on just one point from four matches, at the bottom of the table, but Avaí have not done much better; two points from two draws, including that 0-0 at home versus CSA last weekend. Centre-forward Brenner got the green light from the Brazilian Football Confederation, his papers are ready (he just signed at Avaí), is available, and coach Geninho is expected to give him game time right away. Actually, he is expected to start, taking Daniel Amorim’s place. The other 10 should be Vladimir, Lourenço, Betão, Ricardo, Igor Fernandes, Mosquera, Pedro Castro, Luan Pereira, Julinho and João Paulo.

Vasco da Gama vs Avai: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Vasco, one for Avaí (a… shocking 0-5 in 2014, when both teams played in the second division), and a draw, in the last five games between these two in Rio de Janeiro.
Vasco da Gama vs Avai: Prediction
I don’t expect Vasco to dazzle anyone with their football, but in Luxemubrgo’s first game at home, and sitting at the bottom of the table, I do expect them to look… ready to bleed, if needed, to earn all three points.
Vasco da Gama vs Avai: Betting Tips
Vasco’s win is at 1.75. For more than that, I would combine it with “under 3.5 goals”. Like that, it pays 2.22.
