Vasco da Gama vs Cruzeiro
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 14 October 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Argentinian striker Maxi López scored again last weekend for Vasco da Gama, and salvaged a point for them in the Rio de Janeiro derby against Botafogo. It was Vasco’s fourth 1-1 draw in their last five matches that they have stayed undefeated. After the game, López told reporters Vasco need to start playing more… vertically, indirectly complaining about the fact that he receives the ball very few times in every match. Vasco’s people say they need to step on it in October, so as not to enter November still threatened with relegation. They are on 31 points from 28 matches, 15th in the table, very-very close to the relegation line.
Cruzeiro are one step away from winning the Copa do Brasil for a second year in a row. Midweek, they beat Corinthians 1-0 at home, thanks to a Thiago Neves goal late in the first half. The return leg in Sao Paulo is on Wednesday, so, it goes without writing, Mano Menezes is going to have reserves, exclusively, in this game against Vasco. Among them, will be Fred, who is finally back from injury. The vastly experienced striker feels this is his chance to show Menezes that he is 100% back, and should be taken into consideration for the return leg of the Copa do Brasil final. As for Sassá, Cruzeiro’s 24-year-old striker who “starred” in ugly scenes at the end of the game versus Palmeiras recently, he was given a six-match(!) ban a few days ago, which should serve him as a lesson.

Vasco da Gama vs Cruzeiro: Head to head Stats
Cruzeiro have won five of their last six matches against Vasco in Rio de Janeiro, and not just that, but they’ve scored either three or four goals in each and every victory of theirs(!).
Vasco da Gama vs Cruzeiro: Prediction
Vasco are considered favorites to win the game, but I wouldn’t bet on them. I prefer to bet on goals.
Vasco da Gama vs Cruzeiro: Betting Tips
“Under 2.5 goals” is at 1.50, not particularly tempting, but very probable, as in most Cruzeiro games. Pushing it, I would go for “under 1.5”, feeling that its 2.50 is worth the extra risk.
