Vasco da Gama vs Wilstermann
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 15 February 2018
Kick-off: 00:45 CET
Vasco da Gama’s win at 1.60 last week when they hosted Universidad Concepción was… practically a gift, keeping in mind that a week earlier they had thrown a party in Chile, winning the first leg 4-0. Obviously I backed the Brazilian side to win, and acting a bit greedy, I went for over 2.5 goals as well. Vasco went 2-0 up before halftime, but three minutes into the second part they had a man sent off, and that changed things. Universidad Concepción had a man sent off as well 15 minutes later, but by that time the hosts had… slowed down, and just let the rest of the game pass. Final score, 2-0. That is their most recent game as they didn’t have any obligations over the weekend. In other words, they had a whole week to prepare for their first leg against Wilstermann. Ecuadorian defender Erazo, the guy who got sent off last week, is obviously not available.
For about 10 minutes, Wilstermann’s fans… lost their colour last week. Their team were 2-0 up by halftime against Oriente Petrolero, at home (actually in Sucre, that’s where the game was held, not in Cochabamba), having won the first leg in Santa Cruz de la Sierra 2-1. At that point, Wilstermann had to concede three goals (and score none) to get eliminated. Could that happen? Come 84th minute, the score was at 2-2 (much to my delight, as I had suggested Oriente Petrolero’s double chance at 1.75, exactly because Wilstermann would qualify even with a draw). In the remainder of the game, Wilstermann avoided turning into the… joke of the decade in Bolivia, keeping that 2-2, which was good enough to see them through to the third qualifying round. No game for them last weekend.

Vasco da Gama vs Wilstermann: Head to head Stats
This is the first game ever between these two.
Vasco da Gama vs Wilstermann: Prediction
Vasco da Gama are considered huge favourites to win, but… do keep in mind Wilstermann’s performances in Brazil last year. They lost at Palmeiras 1-0 in the group stage, conceding in added time. In the round of 16, they earned a goalless draw at Atletico Mineiro. All things considered, I do expect Vasco to win, in a game that will have at least three goals.
Vasco da Gama vs Wilstermann: Betting Tips
A simple Vasco win pays just 1.40. They score a lot, Wilstermann’s two games against Oriente Petrolero had a total of seven goals, so I like the chances of over 2.5 goals, at 2.00 betting odds. Combining the two, Vasco’s win and over 2.5, you get to hope for a more than decent 2.30.
