Veria vs Asteras Tripolis
Competition: Greek Super League
Date: 23 April 2017
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
Their home wins against Kerkyra and Giannina gave Veria hope they could avoid relegation, but others did even better, and Veria are mathematically already relegated, which looks fair enough, since they were indeed the worst team in the league. Their defeat at Panetolikos just before the Easter break was the one that sentenced them for good to return to the Football League, Greece’s second category. This will be their last home game in the Super League for at least 16 months, which is the best case scenario for them, if they manage to return to the top flight right away.
Amazingly, Asteras are the only team in the Super League that have not lost a single game in the last five weeks. Ever since coach Vergetis returned to the club, Asteras have earned four draws, plus a spectacular win at Larissa. Italian goalkeeper Donnarumma has left his injury behind him and is ready to play again. Right winger Kaltsas has reached the cards limit and is unavailable. Asteras want to finish the season leaving the best possible impressions, they have been fighting bravely for five weeks now, it will not look good if they lose to a team that have already been relegated, so that’s a big motive for them to push for a win.
Veria vs Asteras Tripolis: Head-to-head Stats
Veria have beaten Asteras in the last three Super League games they have hosted them, by a total score of 6-0.
Veria vs Asteras Tripolis: Prediction
Ever since coach Vergetis took charge, I have been backing Asteras not to lose, five weeks in a row, and they have justified my trust without a single exception. Despite Veria’s… weird home triumphs the last two times they played there, in this particular game I expect them to look… normal, not like the… Barcelona (they share almost the same colours) that beat Kerkyra and Giannina by a total score of 7-0, so I’m backing Asteras, again, not to lose.
Veria vs Asteras Tripolis: Tips
Asteras’s win pays just 1.30. Veria have already been relegated, so someone could expect them to play… freely, just… enjoy the game, bid their fans goodbye, but personally I expect the hosts to look super disappointed, and not even score. An Asteras win with a clean sheet pushes that 1.30 to more… acceptable levels.
