Vitkovice vs. Bili Tygri Liberec
Competition: Champions Hockey League
Date: 8th November 2016
Kick-off: 17:00 CET
After having played out an extraordinarily tight game in Liberec last week, the two Czech sides head back into club action after the international break with just one goal the difference on aggregate after Liberec’s 1-0 win.
It took until 56:26 for the only goal of the first leg to be scored, Liberec’s Milan Bartovic getting it which is why his side have a slender advantage going into tonight. Remember that in the CHL there is no ‘away goals’ rule either.
Vitkovice’s loss against Liberec in the CHL was their second on the spin in all competitions, with just one win in their last four matches overall. The Ostrava side have one of the worst records of teams still alive in the CHL, having only won one of their group stage games with an OT loss in Karpat the other point that helped them through. The last round they swept aside Nitra of Slovakia very convincingly.
Liberec are unbeaten six six games including their last CHL outing, and have won those games by a combined score of 17-3 as they really have tightened up the defense in recent weeks.
At home this season in the CHL, Vitkovice have the wins over Krefeld and Nitra in their three games in Ostrava; the other being a 4-2 loss to Karpat. Averaging three goals a game, Vitkovice have conceded an average of just over a two in the same time – but remember that 7-0 win over Nitra boosts the stats up a bit. They have however won six of the last seven at home in all competitions.
Liberec have only one win from three games away CHL games, that being against poor Norwegian side Lorenskog by 2-1. Having beaten Farjestad at home 4-1 in the last round, the While Tigers almost lost their lead but held on to a 2-0 defeat in Karlstad to edge through. They’ve averaged just 1,7 goals a game on the road, while conceding two. In their own league, Liberec have won their last three road games straight 12-1 on aggregate!
