Vitoria vs Bahia
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 2 July 2017
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
From drawing on the road on the first day of the championship, to losing four consecutive games, to earning seven points in three matches, to losing back-to-back games once again. This has been Vitoria’s season so far, full of ups and -mostly- downs. Things have not been much better at home. One win, one draw, three defeats. Truth be written though, the home defeats have been to Coritiba (when they where flying from one victory to another), leaders Corinthians, and strong Santos. Last weekend they lost 4-1 at Atletico Paranaense, despite taking the lead in the 17th minute, and going to the dressing room at halftime drawn at 1-1. On Friday, Vitoria signed defender Wallace on loan from Gremio. It was at Vitoria where the 29-year-old made his professional debut. Back in 2010 he moved to Corinthians, and later played for Flamengo and Turkish side Gaziantepspor as well, before returning to Brazil for Gremio. An important addition to Vitoria’s roster, no doubt.
Two days before the first ‘Ba-Vi’ (this is how the derbies between Bahia and Vitoria are called in Brazil) of this Serie A campaign, Bahia earned a… victory over their city rivals, when the results of a research conducted by Instituto Paraná Pesquisas were announced. Bahia are said to have almost double the number of fans Vitoria have in the state of Bahia, in the northeast of Brazil, 25.3% (or 3.86 million fans), to 13.4% (or 2.04 ‘torcedores’) of Vitoria. No surprise, Flamengo came third and Corinthians fourth. Fla are by far the most popular club in the country, with Corinthians following. Fans don’t play though, so Bahia need to get their act together. After starting the season very well, they’ve gone to losing four of their last five games, drawing one. Last week they lost 1-0 at home to Flamengo. On top of that, they lost center-back Lucas Fonseca as well, he got sent off with two yellow cards after just 30 minutes into the game, and is obviously unavailable. He has played in most games so far.
Vitoria vs Bahia: Head-to-head Stats
Vitoria have won four of the last five derbies against Bahia as hosts, with the remaining game ending in a draw. Last time Bahia won as hosts was in 2011.
Vitoria vs Bahia: Prediction
Local derby, super tricky game, both teams are in the relegation zone, so… Vitoria have built a great record when hosting Bahia, and numbers may not play football, but they can tell things. Everything considered, I’m backing the hosts to win.
Vitoria vs Bahia: Tips
Vitoria’s win pays 2.37. In such a tricky game, I consider this good enough to avoid even bigger risks with special bets.
