Vitoria vs Corinthians
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 21 May 2017
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Last week I backed Vitoria to earn a draw at Avai in a game that wouldn’t have more than two goals, it ended 0-0, and the Salvador da Bahia team looked solid defensively, which is where new coach Dejan Petkovic had to start from. The Serbian is expected to give attacking midfielder Leonardo Pisculichi a start, which is big news for the Argentine, who has suffered his first months in Brazil. He played in three games at the very start of the season, he got injured, stayed three months out, returned to action in the final of the Baiano championship, against Bahia, he came on as a substitute in the second half, but didn’t play more than ten minutes, since a teammate got sent-off and the interim coach of Vitoria decided to sacrifice him, pulling him back to the bench to send in another defender. This is his first real chance to play after his serious injury at the start of the season. Center-back Fred will also be in the first eleven, returning from injury. Right-back Patric is injured, and Leandro Salino will play instead. All in all, Vitoria will look very different to last weekend.
Corinthians dropped two points last weekend at home against Chapecoense, in a game they were really expected to win. The club keeps signing players to strengthen the squad, and just a couple of days ago young striker Clayson joined the club, coming from Ponte Preta, where he left excellent impressions last season and these first months of 2017. It remains to be seen if he can stand the pressure that wearing Corinthians’ jersey comes, inevitably, with. The Sao Paulo side hasn’t lost a game since March 19, but ever since then they have won less than half their matches, usually drawing, 1-1, six out of seven times, and 0-0 once.
Vitoria vs Corinthians: Head-to-head Stats
Three of the last five games between these two teams at Vitoria have ended in a draw. The hosts have celebrated one win, same as Corinthians.
Vitoria vs Corinthians: Prediction
Draw. I think and think how this game could go, and I keep returning to my original ‘feeling’ that this game will not have a winner. I can’t imagine Corinthians losing, but ‘draw or Corinthians’ is at just 1.33, not worth it. ‘Under 2.5 goals’ is another bet I consider hard to go bad, but it doesn’t pay more than 1.57. Draw feels very probable given the way I ‘read’ this game, and it pays well.
Vitoria vs Corinthians: Tips
A simple draw is at 3.00. That’s good enough. If you feel like acting… greedy, draw and under 2.5 goals pays 3.50.
