Vitoria vs Coritiba
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 28 May 2017
Kick-off: 02:00 CET
Not good enough. Vitoria started the championship with a 0-0 draw at Avai, which was not a bad result, but last weekend they failed to resist Corinthians until the end, they conceded in the 75th minute, and were unable to respond after that. They are trying to strengthen their squad, they are super close to signing Neilton, which would be just awesome for them. The 23-year-old striker didn’t impress at Sao Paulo these last months, he played there on loan from Cruzeiro, but he was great last season at Botafogo, and if he replicates that form wearing Vitoria’s jersey, he will score lots of important goals for them (and himself. He’s still young and definitely dreaming of a move to Europe or elsewhere abroad). Kieza, Vitoria’s number 9, trained properly this last week, and is ready to play. Center-back Kanu and right-back Patric are still trying to get fit after recovering from injuries. Attacking midfielder Gabriel Xavier and center-forward Andre Lima have also recovered from injuries, but have not started training properly.
I really expected Coritiba to surprise many and get a draw last weekend at Santos, but they went 1-0 down in the 8th minute, and the score didn’t change until the end. On the first day of the championship they had thrashed Atletico Goianiense 4-1 at home, looking very-very good. Defensive midfielder Alan Santos got injured in that game against Atletico, but these last days he has been training normally, and could reappear, after missing the game at Santos. Coritiba have been… hosting in their training sessions for some days now someone they helped make a name for himself at the beginning of his career, ending up becoming big in Germany with Schalke and Bayern. It’s Rafinha, who is training with his ex club, so as to stay fit for the games of Brazil’s national team in early June.
Vitoria vs Coritiba: Head-to-head Stats
Vitoria have beaten Coritiba four of the last five times they’ve hosted them, including two Copa Sudamericana games. The fifth match ended in a draw.
Vitoria vs Coritiba: Prediction
Vitoria are not Santos, so despite failing me last weekend, I’m backing Coritiba again not to lose.
Vitoria vs Coritiba: Tips
‘Draw or Coritiba’ pays 1.75. Between the two, I feel a draw is more probable, it pays 3.10, and if the game stays below 2.5 goals, that goes up to 3.60.
