Werder Bremen vs Fortuna Dusseldorf
Competition: Germany Bundesliga
Date: 7 December 2018
Kick-off: 20:30 CET
Yuya Osako’s equalizer in the 33rd minute last weekend, when Werder hosted Bayern Munich, sent the two teams to the dressing room at halftime level on the score, with the hosts dreaming of a positive result against the reigning champions. Early in the second half they went down again, and this time they… stayed there (1-2). The Bremen side have earned just one point from their last five Bundesliga matches. They are 9th in the table, on 18 points from 13 games. Osako, as well as veteran striker Claudio Pizarro and left-back Ludwig Augustinsson, missed some of the training sessions this past week, due to a respiratory infection(!). Thirty hours before kick-off it was unclear if they would be able to play. Pavlenka, Gebre Selassie, Langkamp, Friedl, Augustinsson, M. Eggestein, Sahin, Klaassen, J. Eggestein, Kruse and Harnik, these should be the first 11. Florian Kohfeldt doesn’t have center-back Niklas Moisander at his disposal, as he got sent-off last weekend, in added time (second yellow card). Defensive midfielder Philipp Bargfrede, second striker Fin Bartels, center-forward Aron Johannsson, and center-back Milos Veljkovic, all four are injured.
Fortuna Dusseldorf are back at the bottom of the table after their 0-1 loss to Mainz last weekend. They had earned four points from back-to-back games against Hertha Berlin (4-1!) and Bayern Munich (3-3!!), so that home defeat to Mainz… really hurt. As one of their players, forward Rouwen Hennings, put it, talking to reporters after the final whistle, “that was the toughest defeat to take this season”, exactly because they had been on the rise for a couple of weeks, were playing at home, and against a team who were finding themselves in the lower half of the table. Friedhelm Funkel is expected to have Rensing, Zimmermann, Bormuth, Kaminski, Gießelmann, Bodzek, Zimmer, Stöger, Fink, Lukebakio and Hennings in the starting lineup. Center-back Kaan Ayhan is down with a flu, and left-back Diego Contento is dealing with a knee injury.

Werder Bremen vs Fortuna Dusseldorf: Head to head Stats
Werder have hosted Fortuna just once the last 20 years; it was in 2012, a 2-1 win for the hosts.
Werder Bremen vs Fortuna Dusseldorf: Prediction
Werder have scored in every single game this season, even in all their defeats. Fortuna have conceded a total of 29 goals. Only Nurnberg have conceded – one – more than them. The hosts are considered big favorites to win, but at 1.61. their victory doesn’t really appeal to me.
Werder Bremen vs Fortuna Dusseldorf: Betting Tips
“Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score”, at 1.83, is my tip. I would be super surprised if Werder didn’t score, and actually I expect them to score at least twice. On the other hand, I like Fortuna’s chances of scoring as well, especially after seeing how crazily effective they were on counterattacks against Bayern Munich two weeks ago, in that insane 3-3 in Bavaria.
