Western Province vs Cheetahs
Competition: Currie Cup
Date: 09 September 2017
Kick off: 15:00 CET
The Cheetahs will know that with their basket full they have to try and hold on to the lad they have in the Currie Cup, but Western province are on a hunt to try and push further up the table.
The Cheetahs side that won the Currie Cup last year is no more. They started well in the tournament and led the way from the opening round, but were usurped last week when the Sharks beat them. The reason is that their eggs are now fully in the Pro 14 basket as their strongest team plays in the Celtic league as their new main tournament. It has cost the Cheetahs the chance to defend their Currie Cup title as they essentially have a C-side playing with a squad of 28 currently in Ireland. They face a Western province side that are probably looking to take second spot on the log with the Sharks racing ahead, but that will mean jumping two spots, although the Bulls in third are only one point clear.
For Western Province, it has been an up and down season as they have shown moments of absolute brilliance, especially in beaten the Lions and Bulls. But they have also been undone by teams like the Griquas and the Sharks – in a game they should not have lost. The Province side is full of attacking, and they have even proved they have a defending edge, but their problem is consistency as they battle to keep things going over the competition, doing well one week and then bombing the next. Against the Cheetahs they will know they are firm favourites to win – especially at home where they have won three out of four games, and against the weak side, but they will want to work on a few things in anticipation of the next few games.

Western Province vs Cheetahs: Head to Head Stats
Western Province hold all the cards in this one as they go into the clash with seven wins out of the last 10 encounter. However, the Cheetahs will feel they have a bit of a good thing going as the last four encounter have seen the men from the Free State win three.
Western Province vs Cheetahs: Prediction
Unfortunately the Cheetahs are no longer a factor in this tournament and probably won’t win another game as the quad they have left at their disposal is not of the right quality to be playing the teams in this competition. They are a C-side team whereas the Province team has a host of Super Rugby and international players.
