Wilstermann vs Atletico Mineiro
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 6 July 2017
Kick-off: 02:45 CET
Wilstermann gave priority to their Copa Libertadores groups stage matches over the championship in Bolivia, they got vindicated by qualifying for the last 16 of the biggest club competition in South America, but punished as well, since they finished the championship 10th(!), leaving just two teams below them. Peruvian coach Roberto Mosquera tried several things in training these last days, kept his… experiments to himself blocking access to reporters who usually are allowed to attend the training sessions, but seems that he has made his mind up, he will stick to his favorite 4-4-1-1, with Gilbert Álvarez as his sole striker, and newly-signed secondary striker Sergio Henrique (more commonly known as Serginho, Brazilian, ex-Piracicaba), right behind him. The Bolivian club signed another Brazilian, attacking midfielder Carlinhos (he is expected to be on the bench), as well as striker Ricardo Pedriel, from Turkish side Mersin, but the latter’s papers are not ready yet, and cannot be used against Atletico.
Two minutes towards the end of the first half were enough for Atletico to totally turns the tables on Cruzeiro. From losing 1-0 since early in the game, they went to winning 2-1 just before heading to the dressing room. A second personal goal by Fred in the second half was the cherry on top for the Belo Horizonte team, who got their third consecutive win in all competitions. Center-back Leonardo Silva had to leave the pitch just five minutes into the game, he had just returned from an injury that had kept him out for weeks, and did not travel with the group to Bolivia. Roger Bremer, Álex Silva, Roger Bernardo, Valdívia and Marlone, these are the five players who got included in the revised list that Atletico sent to Conmebol for the remainder of the Copa Libertadores season, they are all available, and especially Bremer is expected to start the game. The 20-year-old was the one who substituted Leonardo Silva in the Belo Horizonte derby last weekend.
Wilstermann vs Atletico Mineiro: Head-to-head Stats
Wilstermann have hosted Atletico Mineiro once before, in 1998, it was the second leg of a Copa Conmebol quarterfinal, the Bolivian side had lost 3-1 in Belo Horizonte, and lost again at home, 1-0.
Wilstermann vs Atletico Mineiro: Prediction
Betting companies give practically equal chances to both teams to win, which gives you an idea how tight the match is expected to be. I have to go with draw. I would back Atletico to win if they hadn’t just played a huge derby in Belo Horizonte. They played nine games in June, they have played one already in July, in the same time Wilstermann played less than half matches, and despite Atletico’s good run lately, I expect them to look tired in this game, and not… die for a win, knowing that they have the return leg at home.
Wilstermann vs Atletico Mineiro: Tips
Draw pays 3.20, and it’s risky enough to avoid playing with ‘under/over 2.5 goals’ fire.
