Wisla Plock vs Cracovia Krakow
Competition: Poland Ekstraklasa
Date: 27 February 2017
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
Losing to the team that appear at the bottom of the table doesn’t make anyone look good, but I feel Wisla Plock deserve to be given a break. They lost to Pogon Szczecin last weekend, but these days’ Pogon have nothing to do with the… laughable team that seemed like a joke until late November. Wisla were definitely expected to do better offensively, they were coming from three wins in a row (and what wins… over Legia Warsaw, Gornik Zabrze and Zeglebia Lubin), having scored a total of eight goals. They produced way less chances than normal, in-form José Kanté was nowhere to be seen, so… They fell 7th in the table, but I expect them to bounce back right away, go back to playing their usual attacking football, scoring at least twice.
A combination of… luck not to concede, and extra motive because of facing such a big name as Legia Warsaw, led Cracovia Krakow to a very good game actually last weekend, at home. Sure, they allowed Legia half a dozen big-big chances to score, but on the other hand, Cracovia had their chances as well, and not much smaller or less in number. It was a game that could have ended… 2-2, or 3-2, 2-3. It’s crazy that it ended in a goalless draw, which was definitely a positive result for Cracovia. They earned a point, they are now 11th in the table, with few chances of making it to the top-8, but slightly improving their position, in their effort to start as high as possible in the relegation round, once the regular season is over.
