Worcester Warriors vs Exeter Chiefs
Competition: Aviva Premiership Rugby
Date: 18 February 2017
Kick-off: 16:00 CET
Worcester have a real tough act to follow as they downed the defending champions in a real shock result by kicking eight penalties against Saracens. They will try and repeat that act against another team that are a real threat in the revived Exeter Chiefs.
Exeter showed their own impressive form when they forced the log leaders Wasps into a draw that the men from Coventry had to eventually be happy to take as Danny Cipriani kicked the ball out at the end to accept the stalemate. Exeter have been growing steadily all season, and their leap above Bath really signaled their intent as a force in this year’s competition again. They are still in third, and although they lost points, they still got one and made a small move towards Saracens who are now a bonus point win away.
Worcester will hope that Exeter are not simply eyeing them as that potential bonus point as they have made a real statement recently. But their battle will be backing up that impressive performance against Saracens. It had the feel of a once off, but things are changing at Warriors, they have their mercurial scrumhalf Francois Hougaard back as well as director of rugby Gary Gold. Exeter will be cagey at first taking on the Warriors, and if Worcester can capitalize on that they can do enough to frustrate the men from the south.
Worcester Warriors vs Exeter Chiefs: Head-to-Head Stats
Exeter are pretty new to the Premiership, but they have burst onto the scene like a house on fire and as such, their only nine encounters with Warriors have all ended in wins as they boast a 100 percent record.
Worcester Warriors vs Exeter Chiefs: Prediction
Exeter have a good roll going on, but their game plan is much better suited to teams that want to come and play, and that was shown then they faced the ultra attacking Wasps, against a much more pragmatic Warriors side they may just find themselves struggling. However, the Warriors do not have enough class in them to really cause another surprise so expect Exeter to win a gritty one.
Worcester Warriors vs Exeter Chiefs: Tips
Worcester won without scoring a try, they will be hungry to score, and no one will be hungrier than Francois Hougaard.
