Xanthi vs Asteras Tripolis
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 9 March 2019
Kick-off: 15:00 CET
Milan Rastavac, Xanthi’s coach, was asked after their goalless draw at PAS Giannina last weekend if his team are left without a real motive in the Super League, hence their poor performances and results. He said the motive is there(?), and that they still enter every game aiming at winning it, no matter if they are far-far behind the Europa League positions (which was their… secret target at the end of the season, qualify for the EL). Xanthi have now drawn in four of their last five matches, and the one they lost, it was because of an added-time goal, Incredibly, they have scored just one goal in their last seven games, and haven’t won in the Super League since January 20. Before that, you’d have to go back to early November to find another victory of theirs. A failure, no doubt, this season for Xanthi, who now sit 8th in the table, on 28 points.
At a loss for words… Asteras Tripolis did something you rarely-rarely see anywhere in the world, in a football match. They hosted Panetolikos last weekend, and they won 3-0 (nothing… extraordinary up to here), despite losing a player to a direct red card less than four minutes into the game(!). What makes Asteras’ accomplishment even more “wow”, is that they didn’t beat a weaker or an indifferent opponent, but Panetolikos, a team super eager to win last weekend, so as to stay close to the fifth spot in the table, which could earn their “occupants” a Europe League ticket. Asteras were 2-0 up by halftime, and things got even better(!) in the second half, Remember, they are in the Cup semifinals, dreaming of glory there.

Xanthi vs Asteras Tripolis: Betting Tips
“Draw and under 2.5 goals” is at 3.10, a risk I find worth taking. “Under 2.5 goals” looks very probable, but pays too little. “Under 1.5” is at 2.25, and would be my second choice, after “draw and under 2.5 goals”.
