Zaglebie Lubin vs Lechia Gdansk
Competition: Poland Ekstraklasa
Date: 2 March 2018
Kick-off: 20:30 CET
Zaglebie Lubin hadn’t won a game since the restart of the season, but midweek I backed them to beat Sandecja Nowy Sacz in Nieciecza, and they did, paying the 2.20 I was counting on them to deliver. They took the lead just before half time (Kamil Mazek scored his first goal of the season in his fourth, only, appearance), and things started looking even better for them in the 66th minute when Sandecja were reduced to 10 men. Huge win for Zaglebie, who returned to the top-8. They didn’t… dazzle anyone with their football, but in February it’s tough to impress in Poland, the weather conditions make it extra hard to play decent attacking football, on certain days the weather is too bad, as well as the condition of the pitch – despite the Poles’ efforts to deliver the best possible playing surfaces year-round – but Zaglebie did look serious, focused, and got that victory they so much needed.
“If Lechia don’t bounce back in this match, at home, against this team, I don’t know when, where, and against whom they will bounce back…” This is what I wrote in the Lechia vs Nieciecza preview, backing the Gdansk side to win in a game that would have at least three goals (2.87). I had a 2-1 hunch, really expecting Lechia to bounce back. No. Lechia were winning 2-1 indeed since the 57th minute, but in added time they let two points slip through their fingers… In four matches after the winter break, they have just two points, despite the fact that three of those four games were at home. Poor tally, no wonder they are just 12th, four points ahead of bottom-of-the-table Sandecja Nowy Sacz. With five games left, and 10 whole points behind 8th-placed Wisla Plock, it would be a joke to talk about Lechia finishing in the upper half of the table.

One win for Zaglebie and four(!) for Lechia in the last five games between these two in Lubin. All four Lechia victories went over 2.5 goals.
Zaglebie Lubin vs Lechia Gdansk: Prediction
Zaglebie look set to finish the regular season on a high, unlike Lechia who keep failing to… catch a break. I’m backing the hosts to win.
Zaglebie Lubin vs Lechia Gdansk: Betting Tips
Zaglebie’s win pays more than what I expected, 2.15, which I consider good enough to avoid risking further with special bets.
