Zebre vs Toulouse
Competition: European Rugby Champions Cup
Date: 10 December 2016
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
Unsurprisingly in a group that has domestic champions, French super stars and a revived English side, the lowly Zebre side have picked up no points in their two games and rather become the whipping boys of their pool. Now, against Toulouse, they will look for an upset, or at least try and stop the rot.
It has not been a good start for the Italians, and they are always expected to struggle in these competitions when they face off against the best in Europe and are only really there by convenience. Their inability was really shown in their first match when they had to travel to the free-scoring Wasps who managed to humiliate them by scoring more than a point a minute, the game ending there 82-14. Things got only slightly better when they welcomed the Pro12 champions Connacht to their home ground as Connacht put past 50 points on the lowly Italians in a game that ended 52-7.
Toulouse, who are currently third on the log thanks to some interesting results, have picked up a draw and loss with a bonus point for their three points. They began their season, away, which is always tricky for the French, against Connacht and lost that one in a nail-bitter 23-21. They then welcomed the dangerous Wasps side and pulled off a miraculous result to hold the free-scoring Wasps to a 20-20 draw. Toulouse are well placed in the competition, but will need to win in this match, even though it is an away fixture.
Zebre vs Toulouse: Domestic Form
Even in their domestic League, Zebre are renowned to struggle against the best of Scotland, Ireland and Wales. They sit only one spot off the bottom, which is occupied by another Italian side, and have won one game in their eight encounters all season with 253 points being shipped past them.
Toulouse in France are a team that have won the Top 14 before, but currently, they are not quite at their best. They are seventh on the log with seven wins, and six losses, but it is a very tight log and hard to call it simply on where they sit on a specific day.
Zebre vs Toulouse: Prediction
It would almost be called miraculous if Zebre won this one, they struggle domestically, so it is unsurprising they would struggle in a competition they probably should not be in. In fact, it will be more than a defeat, it will be a humiliation, and one for the few times where a French team will be almost certain of an away win.
Zebre vs Toulouse: Tips
Having already conceded 134 points in two games, you can bet Zebre will leak more points in this game. Bet on there to be over 70 points in the match and for Toulouse to score the bulk of them.
