Zorya vs CSKA Sofia
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 15 August 2019
Kick-off: 19:00 CET
Vladlen Yurchenko’s successful penalty kick late in the first half last week has given Zorya an advantage over CSKA, after 90 minutes that were definitely not the best football fans have enjoyed in Europa League qualifying matches these last weeks. Attempts were 10-7 for CSKA, the on target ones were 4-2, generally it was a tight game, but what matters the most is that Zorya scored that all too precious away goal they wanted, and left Sofia undefeated. Be reminded, in the second qualifying round, they beat another Balkan team, Budućnost, 1-0 at home in the return leg. On Sunday they beat Kolos Kovalivka 1-3 away from home. They have earned seven points from their first three games in Ukraine’s championship, good enough to be sitting second in the table, behind leaders Shakhtar Donetsk, the only team on nine points.
CSKA’s double chance combined with “under 2.5 goals” (2.12) was one of the two tips here last week, but truth is, I expected the Bulgarian side to keep a clean sheet. Ljupko Petrovic’s team were slightly better than Zorya, but… when you play against a team that are not afraid to commit one foul after another, it’s almost impossible to find rhythm. Believe it or not, Zorya committed 25(!) fouls, but their players saw just two yellow cards. CSKA had 14 fouls given against them, but three players booked. They did well on Sunday, earning a goalless draw at reigning champions Ludogorets. Important – potentially – detail: CSKA have played four official games on the road this summer, and have scored in only one of those (if you can call an “away” match the Sofia derby against Slavia).

Zorya vs CSKA Sofia: Prediction
The hosts are considered favorites to win, but I wouldn’t bet on that. Keeping in mind how the first leg between these two went, I would bet on goals.

“Under 2.5 goals” is at 1.67, going up to 2.08 if combined with Zorya’s double chance (not win).
